This Mess We're In: A Queer As Folk game [02 Dec 2009|01:09am] oldschoolrp [kwaf] THIS MESS WE'RE IN: a post-513 queer as folk game In April 2005 the bonds of a family were stretched and twisted and frayed by time and distance - but these bonds were too strong to break. Now, nearly five years later, not much has changed within the extended family unit that had materialized in the Pittsburgh area over the past many years. Liberty Avenue is still a bustling, blooming gayborhood within the metropolis, Debbie Novotny is still playing Mother Hen from her nest in the diner, her son is still happily "married" to a intelligent Carnegie prof, and their adopted son is taking on the world, one college course at a time. And the antihero of all antiheroes? He's still around, tragically as successful and good-looking as ever, working to hold all the frays of the past few years together, if quietly. Elsewhere, two successful women are raising a family outside of the country, and the most infamous member of the past-Pittsburgh Twink Brigade is seemingly constantly en route within the 350 miles between Pittsburgh and NYC. If only he could decide where to replant his roots permanently. Meanwhile, outside of the steel capital of the world, America is undergoing major renovation. With a new presidential administration comes hope for the ever-proud LGBT community, but the recent passing of Proposition 8 in California might prove to be disastrous for the progressive movement, even on the opposite coast. Political tensions are high, lives are continuing even in the midst of the nostalgia for the beginning of the new millennium, and this family is still struggling to include all of each other within their busy schedules. This Mess We're in is a post-513 roleplaying community based on the hit Showtime series Queer As Folk, and looking for fans of the canceled show to continue the legacy of the well-developed characters we've been missing for four lost seasons. Or do they remain, still wandering the world, immortal, surviving off what little belief they can gather? Forgotten Gods follows the lives of these old deities, brought to America long ago by explorers or immigrants from their homelands and eventually abandoned or lost from memory. As their worshippers moved on to new religions, the gods' powers waned - for a god, at its most pure essence, is no more than an idea, and an idea is worthless if there is nobody to believe in it. Some have passed, forgotten, from the world, while others have fallen into madness. Some have simply tried to adapt, to make a life for themselves in this place without gods, getting by on what little scraps of worship and belief they can garner. Others are more radical, attempting to regain the power that was once theirs, to revive their followings. And then there are the New Gods. Gods of cars and computers, television and radio, cities and highways, all those things that modern Americans put their faith in. They are young, at the height of their power. These newcomers are regarded dismissively by some of the older gods, who have seen so many new deities rise and fall in their time; jealously by others, who wish to reclaim the power for their own; and by all with a deep wariness. Absit Omen: A Harry Potter RPG, Circa 2008 [04 Dec 2009|09:53pm] oldschoolrp [ao_admin] Double, double toil and trouble; It all started with the Remembering Day murders. Ex-Azkaban inmate Theodora Kingstreet, in the beginnings of a plot to remove the Minister of Magic, staged her own attack on the night of the Memorial Ceremony. The result was the death of two innocent aurors and the framing of an innocent student for murder. These events led to the resignation of the Hogwarts Headmaster, Knox Greyfriar, leaving the prestigious position open for grabs. Meanwhile, the Head of the Department of Mysteries, Analiza Snark, is trying to get funding for her mysterious Project 492: The wizarding world's ultimate weapon. Fire burn, and cauldron bubble. When Minister Annwyl rejects her idea, Snark is forced to seek another place to develop it without the Ministry looking over her shoulder: Hogwarts. She seizes the position of Headmistress and in order to continue her work unhindered, she redirects attention elsewhere- towards Olivia Foley, a fifth-year Hufflepuff and known werewolf. Snark expels Ollie for her condition, causing an uproar among some professors and students, who gather to form a werewolf rights group known as SAWS. To remain in power, she hires student Devlin Matthews to sabotage SAWS and frame them for vandalism against the school, drawing more attention away from her real goals. To make matters worse, in the shadows other factions are beginning to move, from the sinister aspirations of the Wizarding Blood Alliance to the mysterious artifact brought back by the Ancient Runes professor and its ties to an ancient wizarding cult. That means in the world 6,706,999 people are immune. 30,382 in the US. 4,301 in Colorado. 2,506 in Denver... In July of 2012 a pathogen that came to be known as The Fury Virus was released by a cult of religious fanatics who believed they were destined to do so in order to bring about the apocalypse. Their goal was to purge the Earth of sinners, people unworthy to stand upon it. Only the righteous would remain, those that had earned their place in the new world. Everything did not go according to plan. The virus was uncontrollable. No continent, no country, no city was spared. The infection spread everywhere, mercilessly and indiscriminately killing saints and sinners alike . In the end, only a small percentage of people were left alive, but they were not the righteous. They'd simply won the genetic lottery, blessed with immunity and cursed with the burden of watching the world fall apart around them. Then there were the others, another small percentage of the population, who didn't die from the virus. They were changed though. Changed into beings made up purely of madness and rage. They killed without thought or hesitation. Those that survived the virus without succumbing to madness were now forced to fight for the lives they were trying to rebuild. The creatures, those that were changed, were called Eaters, due to their insatiable appetite for living flesh. One group of survivors made the drive up Mount Evans, to the University of Denver's Meyer-Womble Observatory, away from the packs of Eaters that roamed the cities and the plain. There, they started a new life, building a new home known as Haven. For the last eight months, they've worked tirelessly, building walls to keep their new home safe. What they can't make or grow on their own, they raid from the mostly empty city of Denver. The Eaters still come, roving bands looking for flesh to sate their hunger. The residents of Haven must fight for their lives and work together to survive. Plus 28 Days - Post DH End of World RPG [04 Dec 2009|11:04am] oldschoolrp [plus28daysmods] On October 31st, 1999, a group of eco-terrorists released a biological weapon at every major airport in the world. 48 hours later, the true nature of the weapon became clear. The infected became violent, infecting others through bites and scratches. 50 hours after the first contagion was released, governments across the globe initiated states of emergency. Sites were designated as shelters with troops and Aurors sent to protect those sites at all costs. Radio broadcasts gave the locations of the Ministry of Magic and Buckingham Palace as 'safe spots' but they were really processing centers screening out the infected and sending the uninfected via the Floo network to hidden shelters. Those lucky enough to find shelter must now wait it out – the 28 long days for the infected to starve to death or kill each other in their madness. It has been twelve years since the purge of the Telepaths, a two year long war where Telepaths and Telekinetics were ruthlessly hunted down. It has been twelve years and 1 month since the passing of the Psi Protection Act, granting telepaths freedoms as any other citizen and protections formerly unknown, but also placing limits on what telepaths could legally do. It has been 11 years and 11 months since the formation of the Psi Corps, a government controlled para-military organization charged with protecting, organizing, and regulating telepaths. With the formation of the Psi Cops, those telepaths that are considered rogues have gone further underground, helped by mundane sympathizers. They are only occasionally lucky enough to remain hidden and not returned to the Corps. Though there are heavy regulations on what a telepath can and cannot do, they soon find themselves working with the government, and outside the PPA. Though the so-called Golden Age of King Char and Queen Ella is long over- so long ago now that few are still alive who can remember it- life continues on much as it ever did. Merchants travel the lands far and wide, finding new and exotic goods to bring back to Greenville, the town just outside the royal palace. Greenville's markets are thriving, and most of the town's inhabitants pay little mind to the castle looming in the distance. That is, of course, until The Gray Death appears. There is no known cure. Sufferers initially feel very weak, and are soon not even able to get out of bed. Overcome by fever, their complexions turn gray and they die. Still, Greenville believes it is safe- there are just rumors of the illness, and being so close to the castle, they're safe, right? Wrong. The illness knows no boundaries, a fact that is brought starkly to light when the King of Frell contracts the disease and dies a short time later. The King leaves behind a land in limbo- his wife, the Queen, is trying her level best to keep power from the hands of their immature son. Heroes search for a cure, trying to avenge their fallen King. Life in Greenville continues on, if a bit more cautiously. Life in the court, however, is marked by ambition and intrigue. Courtiers' motives are far from pure, and ambitions are on the rise. No one is sure who will emerge victorious. Happily ever after was never a guarantee. Fair is an original character role playing game inspired by Ella Enchanted, Fairest, and The Two Princesses of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine. [05 Dec 2009|03:34am] blue_soaring Tonight so far has included yoga, the DVD commentary for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, some very strange and random urge to clean the grout in the backsplash above my kitchen sink with a toothbrush, digging through the external hard drive and rediscovering the OST for Chrono Cross, my neighbour orgasming incredibly loudly, downloading anything and everything that involves Robert Downey Jr.'s face, and rearranging my attic while muddling over the issues of identity and existance in Chrono Cross. Not sleeping is certainly productive, but not in that way where it's useful. I haven't gone to bed in three days now! It is very strange to subsist on random couch naps, lemme tell you. Tomorrow is movie day, as Roomie's retroactive pay finally showed up, so we're gonna go see 2012 and The Men Who Stare at Goats. As much as I want to see both, I really wish Sherlock freakin' Holmes was out already. In other news, I want to write fic but I don't want to actually write. This presents an obvious problem. This transformation has left many traditionalists scared and fighting but most have been liberated due to the changes and are keen to allow them to continue. Mainly the rights for women and children have altered drastically. The change to female rights is almost immediately noticeable with the change of fashion. Medical and scientific understanding has improved and the experimentation for artificial limb use and ‘upgrades’ to the physical being are becoming highly fashionable however extremely costly. Whittlewell is the capital city of the British Empire and is on the cutting edge of the steam revolution. Its advances in air ship travel and compact innovations for steam capability are the envy of the world and have lead to the boon in wealth. However the gap between rich and poor is ever expanding.
